The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And (as to) the companions of the left hand; how wretched are the companions of the left hand! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 facing one another. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And extended shade, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
