The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 For those on the right. 38
