The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Occurrence occurs, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In the Gardens of Pleasure, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will wait upon them 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 along with fruits of their choice; 20 And meat of birds that they may wish. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And clustered plantains, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches; 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
