The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 and a few from later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 The companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 and continuous shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
