The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Who will be honoured 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining thereon facing each other. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 No headache will they have therefrom, nor will they be intoxicated - 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And made them virgins, 36 Loving companions matched in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
