The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 and casts out all that is within it and becomes empty; 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence). 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 And he shall return unto his people joyfully. 9 And as to him who shall be given his book from behind his back 10 they will say, "Woe to us!" 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 He verily lived joyous with his folk, 13 Indeed, he had thought he would never return [to Allah]. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And by the night and that which it driveth together, 17 And the moon when at the full, 18 you will progress from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them, then, that they believe not 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 But on the contrary the Unbelievers reject (it). 22 But Allah has full knowledge of what they secrete (in their breasts) 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 except to those who believe, and do righteous deeds, for theirs is an unfailing recompense. 25
