The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 you shall be divided into three parties, 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 in the beautiful Paradise. 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 The Companions of the Right 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 And shade extended 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
