The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 near to flowing water 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 Whose season is not limited, nor (supply) forbidden, 33 And raised couches. 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 loving and of equal age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
