The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Abasing exalting. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and shade extended, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 We have made them virgins, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
