The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 (The foremost ones) will be the nearest ones to God 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 Round about them shall go youths never altering in age, 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 And shade extended 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 for the Companions of the Right 38
