a good many of olden times, 39 And a multitude of those of later time. 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 scalding water and under a shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 And they persisted in the great violation. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 will be brought together for an appointment on an appointed day. 50 Then you people who had gone astray and rejected the Truth 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 and fill your bellies with it, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 drink it as the most insatiably thirsty camels drink!" 55 Such shall be your hospitality on the Day of Recompense. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Just consider what you emit, 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Surely, we have been deprived (of the benefits)". 67 And have you seen the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to descend from the clouds, or do We? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Did you produce the tree that serves as fuel or do We? 72 We have made it a reminder and an advantage for the wayfarers of the desert. 73 Wherefore hallow thou the name of thy Lord, the Mighty. 74
