These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and a good many of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left. O Companions of the Left! 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined. 50 Then indeed you, the astray, the deniers - 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We Who created you, so why do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 If We willed, We verily could make it chaff, then would ye cease not to exclaim: 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 So what is your opinion regarding the water that you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Did you make its timber to grow, or did We make it? 72 We have made it as a reminder of hell and as a utility for travellers in the jungle. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
