A (goodly) number from those of old, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Surely they had lived before in luxury, 45 And they have been persisting in the heinous offence. 46 And they used to say: "When we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be resurrected? 47 “And also our forefathers?” 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 "Then you will fill your bellies therewith, 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 This is their entertainment on the day of requital. 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have you seen sperm? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And ye certainly know already the first form of creation: why then do ye not celebrate His praises? 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you who cause it to grow - or are We the cause of its growth? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Aye! we are deprived! 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds or We? 69 If We will We can make it bitter, so why do you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 It is We who have made it a means to remind [you of Us,] and a comfort for all who are lost and hungry in the wilderness [of their lives]. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
