A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 (They will be) in the midst of a Fierce Blast of Fire and in Boiling Water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 Will our ancient forefathers be resurrected too? 48 Say: 'The ancients, and the later folk 49 shall all be brought together on an appointed Day. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 You shall fill your bellies with it, 53 and drink on top of that boiling water 54 "So you will drink (that) like thirsty camels!" 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you. Will ye then admit the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed you spill? 58 Do you create a child out of it, or are We its creators? 59 We mete out death among you, and We are not to be outrun, 60 that We will change you and cause you to grow again in a way you do not know. 61 And you have already known the first creation, so will you not remember? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 If We so pleased, We could turn your harvest into chaff. Then you would start lamenting, 65 (Saying): "We are indeed Mughramun (i.e. ruined or lost the money without any profit, or punished by the loss of all that we spend for cultivation, etc.)! [See Tafsir Al-Qurtubi, Vol. 17, Page 219] 66 "Indeed are we shut out (of the fruits of our labour)" 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
