a large throng from the ancients, 39 and many from the later generations. 40 BUT AS FOR those who have persevered in evil - what of those who have persevered in evil? 41 mid burning winds and boiling waters 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 Lo! heretofore they were effete with luxury 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 Will all be brought together to the tryst of an appointed day. 50 Then lo! ye, the erring, the deniers, 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you thought about [the semen] that you discharge -- 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered 60 that We may exchange the likes of you, and make you to grow again in a fashion you know not. 61 You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect? 62 See ye the seed that ye sow in the ground? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We willed, surely We would make it chaff, so that ye would be left wondering. 65 "We are ruined, 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 If We willed, We could make it bitter, so why are you not grateful? 70 Behold! the fire which ye strike out: 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
