These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 And the companions of the left - what are the companions of the left? 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 and the shadow of a smoking blaze 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Surely they were before that made to live in ease and plenty. 45 and they persisted obstinately in awful sin, 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations 49 "All will certainly be gathered together for the meeting appointed for a Day well-known. 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We have created you, then why would you not confirm it? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 Ponder upon the soil you till, 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour." 67 See ye the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds, or is it We who bring it down? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you who have brought into being the tree that serves as its fuel - or are We the cause of its coming into being? 72 We Ourselves made it for a reminder, and a boon to the desert-dwellers. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
