A multitude of those of old 39 And a multitude from the later generations. 40 But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand -- 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 They used to say: “What! Once we are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, shall we still be raised to a new life from the dead? 47 We and our fathers of old? 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 "And drink Boiling Water on top of it: 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 That is their accommodation on the Day of Recompense. 56 WE who have created you, [O men:] why, then, do you not accept the truth? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You have certainly known the first creation. Why, then, do you not take heed? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 Were it Our Will, We could crumble it to dry pieces, and you would be regretful (or left in wonderment). 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 nay, we have been robbed!' 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Then magnify the Name of thy Lord, the All-mighty. 74
