a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor beneficial. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 and would say: "What! After we have died and become mere dust and bones, shall we, forsooth, be raised from the dead? 47 (We) and our fore-fathers of yore?” 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then you, the erring ones and those that gave the lie to the Truth, 51 You will indeed eat from the Zaqqum tree. 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and thereupon you shall drink boiling water, 54 You shall drink it as the thirsty camels drink." 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Then tell Me (about) the human semen that you emit. 58 Is it ye who create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 In order that We may bring in your place the likes of you and make you grow into what you know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you thought about the water you drink? 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We willed, We verily could make it salt (and undrinkable), why then do you not give thanks (to Allah)? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a reminder and provision for the travelers, 73 Then, exalt the Name of your Lord, the Great. 74
