A throng of the ancients 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In scorching wind and boiling hot water. 42 And in the shades of Black Smoke: 43 neither cool nor good. 44 Before they lived at ease, 45 And used to persist in the awful sin. 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: The first and the last, 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 Then indeed you, O those astray [who are] deniers, 51 "Ye will surely taste of the Tree of Zaqqum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 and on top of this you will drink boiling water 54 lapping it down like thirsty camels.' 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you considered the seed? 58 Is it you who create it (i.e. make this semen into a perfect human being), or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed death to you all, and We are not unable, 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You have surely known of the first creation. Why then, will you not remember! 62 Behold! that which ye sow. 63 Is it you that make it grow, or are We the Grower? 64 Did We will, We would make it broken orts, and you would remain bitterly jesting -- 65 crying, "We have been left to suffer loss. 66 “In fact, we were unfortunate!” 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you seen the fire which you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We have made it to be a reminder and a benefit for the wayfarers. 73 Then celebrate with praises the name of thy Lord, the Supreme! 74
