A multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the first generation (who embraced Islam). 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 In scorching wind and scalding water 42 And the shade of black smoke. 43 neither cool, neither goodly; 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and had persisted in the Great Sin. 46 And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again? 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 will indeed be gathered together at a fixed time on an appointed Day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 you shall eat of a tree called Zakkoum, 52 and will have to fill your bellies therewith, 53 And thereon ye will drink of boiling water, 54 Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease." 55 Thus shall they be entertained on the Day of Recompense. 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you seen that which you emit? 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 We! it is We Who have decreed death unto you all. And We are not to be outrun. 60 from replacing you by others like yourselves or changing your forms and re-creating you in forms that you know nothing of. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 And have you seen that [seed] which you sow? 63 Is it ye that cause it to grow, or are We the Cause? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 Verily we are undone. 66 Nay, but we are deprived! 67 Have you considered the water you drink? 68 Send it down ye from the raincloud, or are We the Sender down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Did you make its tree grow or was it We Who made it grow? 72 We have made it a reminder, and a blessing to the traveler. 73 Extol, then, the limitless glory of thy Sustainer's mighty name! 74
