۞ Have you not seen those who have become hypocrites? They say to those of their brethren who disbelieve from among the followers of the Book: If you are driven forth, we shall certainly go forth with you, and we will never obey any one concerning you, and if you are fought against, we will certainly help you, and Allah bears witness that they are most surely liars. 11 To be sure, if they are banished, they will not go with them and if war is waged against them, they will not aid them; and even if they provide any aid to them, they will still turn their backs, and thereafter no aid will be forthcoming to them. 12 Their fear of you in their hearts is greater than their fear of Allah; that is because they are a people who do not understand. 13 They will not fight you in a body except in fortified cities, or from behind the walls. Their enmity among themselves is great. You think they are united, but divided are their hearts. That is because these people are devoid of sense, 14 They are like those who tasted the evil consequences of their deeds a short while before. A grievous chastisement awaits them. 15 Like satan when he said to the human, 'Disbelieve'; then as soon as he disbelieved, he said, 'Indeed, I am innocent of you, surely, I fear Allah, the Lord of all the Worlds' 16 The end of both will be that they will go into the Fire, dwelling therein for ever. Such is the reward of the wrong-doers. 17
