Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The indubitable event! 1 What is the Inevitable? 2 And what have you understood, how tremendous the true event is! 3 Thamood and Ad cried lies to the Clatterer. 4 the Thamud were destroyed by a terrible storm of thunder and lightning; 5 And the 'Ad were destroyed by the furious cold blast of roaring wind 6 which God let loose against them for seven nights and eight days unremittingly, so that you could have seen its people lying prostrate as though they were the hollow trunks of palm-trees which had fallen down. 7 Can you see any remnant of them now? 8 And there was Pharaoh, too, and [many of] those who lived before him, and the cities that were overthrown - [all of them] indulged in sin upon sin 9 And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip. 10 Surely We bore you up in the ship when the water rose high, 11 so that We might make all this a [lasting] reminder to you all, and that every wide-awake ear might consciously take it in. 12 With the first blast of sound from the trumpet, 13 And the earth and the mountains are lifted and leveled with one blow - 14 Then on that Day shall happen the Event. 15 And the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail. 16 And the angels shall be on the sides thereof; and above them eight shall bear on that day your Lord's power. 17 That will be the Day when you shall be brought forth (before Allah) and no secret of yours shall remain hidden. 18 Then he who is given his record in his right hand will exclaim, "Here is my record, read it. 19 Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning. 20 So he shall have an agreeable life 21 in a lofty garden, 22 with its fruits within easy reach. 23 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did beforehand in the days gone by. 24 But as for him who will be given his Record in his left hand, will say: "I wish that I had not been given my Record! 25 and knew nothing of my reckoning. 26 "Ah! Would that (Death) had made an end of me! 27 Of no avail to me is all that I have [ever] possessed, 28 [and] all my power of argument has died away from me!" 29 The angels will be told, "Seize and chain them, 30 then cast him in the Fire, 31 and then thrust him into a chain [of other sinners like him - a chain] the length whereof is seventy cubits: 32 for, behold, he did not believe in God, the Tremendous, 33 and did not feel any urge to feed the needy: 34 So no friend has he here this Day, 35 nor any food save the filth 36 Which none but the wrongdoers eat. 37
