The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
There hath asked an asker for the torment about to befall. 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 a chastisement from Allah, the Lord of the ascending steps, 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Wherefore be thou patient with a becoming patience. 5 Verily they think that the chastisement is far off, 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On that Day the heaven shall become like molten copper, 8 and the mountains will become like dyed tufts of wool, 9 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 And his wife and his brother. 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 and all persons of the earth, if only he could thus save himself. 14 But never. It is pure white flame 15 Plucking out (his being) right to the skull!- 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Indeed, man is born impatient: 19 Very nervous when touched by misfortune. 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 save those that pray 22 Who persevere in devotion, 23 those who give a due share of their wealth 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgement, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 who guard their privates 29 save from their wives and what their right hands own, then not being blameworthy 30 So those who desire more than this – it is they who are the transgressors. 31 And those who fulfil their trusts and covenants, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 all these shall live honourably in the Gardens. 35
