The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 from punishing them. He is the Lord of the Ascending Stairways, 3 The angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him during a Day the extent of which is fifty thousand years. 4 So be patient (O Muhammad SAW), with a good patience. 5 behold, they see it as if far off; 6 But We see it very near. 7 The day the sky becomes like molten brass, 8 and the mountains shall be as plucked wool-tufts, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 And his spouse and his brother 12 the kinsmen who gave him shelter, 13 And whoever is on earth entirely [so] then it could save him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Flaying off the scalp-skin. 16 and it shall call him who withdrew and turned his back 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Human beings are created greedy. 19 Irritable (discontented) when evil touches him; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 But not so the worshippers 22 who are steadfast in prayer; 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For the petitioner and the deprived - 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 And those who guard their private parts, 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 But those who seek more than this will be transgressors; 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 Who uphold their testimonies, 33 and who guard their prayers [from all worldly intent]. 34 These it is who in the gardens [of paradise] shall be honoured! 35
