The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 The infidels, of which there is no averter. 2 (A Penalty) from Allah, Lord of the Ways of Ascent. 3 Whereby the angels ascend unto Him and also the spirit, On a Day whereof the measure is fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 they see it as being far off; 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 though they are in sight of each other. To ransom himself from the punishment of that Day, the sinner will wish that he might even ransom himself by his sons, 11 And his wife and his brother 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 And all who are on the earth; so that this might deliver him. 14 By no means! Verily it is a Flame. 15 It snatches away by the scalps, 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 except those that pray, 22 Who are at their prayer constant. 23 In whose wealth a due share is included 24 For those who beg, and for the needy who cannot even ask. 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who are fearful of the punishment of their Lord - 27 Indeed, the punishment of their Lord is not that from which one is safe - 28 those who preserve their chastity 29 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy; 30 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 and perform their witnessings, 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
