The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel, 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 They think that it (the Day of Judgment) is far away. 6 And We see it nigh. 7 It shall befall on a Day whereon the sky will become like molten brass, 8 And the mountains will be like wool, 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And the nearest of his kinsfolk who gave him shelter, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 tearing away his skin! 16 calling him who drew back and turned away, 17 and amassed (riches) and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily man is impatient by nature: 19 bewailing when evil befalls him, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Not so, however, those who consciously turn towards God in prayer. 22 Those who are constant at their prayer 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 and those who believe in the Day of Judgement 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure - 28 who guard their privates 29 Are free of blame, 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who keep their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 And those who [carefully] maintain their prayer: 34 Those shall be in Gardens, high-honoured. 35

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
