The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
One demanding, demanded the chastisement which must befall 1 those who deny the truth. [Know, then, that] nothing can ward it off, 2 From Allah, the Lord of all pinnacles. 3 To Him ascend the angels and the Spirit in a day the measure of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore, [O believers] behave with seemly patience. 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 But We see it (quite) near. 7 On the day when the heaven shall be as molten copper 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And friend shall not ask of friend 10 though they may see each other. A sinner will wish that he could save himself from the torment of that day by sacrificing his children, 11 His wife and his brother, 12 And his family who had stood by him, 13 and whosoever is in the earth, altogether, so that it might save him. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 stripping away his skin, 16 It invites he who turned his back [on truth] and went away [from obedience] 17 And collected [wealth] and hoarded. 18 ۞ Verily, man (disbeliever) was created very impatient; 19 Fretful when evil touches him; 20 but when they are fortunate, they become niggardly 21 Save worshippers. 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 for the needy and the deprived, 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 And those who fear the punishment of their Lord. 27 for, behold, of their Sustainer's chastisement none may ever feel [wholly] secure; 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 Except in the case of their wives or those whom their right hands possess-- for these surely are not to be blamed, 30 but any who seeks to go beyond that, it is indeed they who are the transgressors, 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 and who stand firm whenever they bear witness; 33 And those who guard their Salat (prayers) well. 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
