The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
44 verses, revealed in Mecca after Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah) before The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 The Unbelievers, the which there is none to ward off,- 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of ascent. 3 by which the angels and the Spirit ascend to Him in one Day the duration of which is fifty thousand years. 4 Therefore be patient, with a beautiful patience; 5 Verily they behold it afar off. 6 but We see it near at hand. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 and the mountains will become like tufts of wool, 9 No loyal friend will ask another loyal friend 10 Though they shall be made to see one another. Fain would the guilty ransom himself from the torment of that Day by his children. 11 and of his spouse, and of his brother, 12 his kinsmen who gave him refuge (from hardship) 13 And all those who are on the earth, to save himself. 14 Nay, verily it is a furnace 15 Dragging by the head, 16 and it will claim all those who turned their backs [on the true faith] and turned away [from the truth], 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 when evil visits him, impatient, 20 And niggardly when good reaches him;- 21 Except those who establish prayer. 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 For the beggar and the destitute. 25 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment, 26 who are afraid of the torment of their Lord, 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 except from their wives and what their right hands own, for these they are not blameworthy. 30 but those who go beyond that limit are transgressors; 31 And those who respect their trusts and covenants; 32 And those who are firm upon their testimonies. 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 They will be in gardens, honored. 35
