In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Behold, We shall bestow upon thee a weighty message 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 So remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with exclusive devotion. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 And leave them to Me – these wealthy deniers – and give them some respite. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 Then how shall ye, if ye deny (Allah), guard yourselves against a Day that will make children hoary-headed?- 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 Verily, this is an admonition, therefore whosoever will, let him take a Path to His Lord! 19
