Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Stand up in Prayer by night, all but a small part of it; 2 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Indeed, the first part of night is heavier in tread, and more upright in speech. 6 Verily there is for thee by day occupation prolonged. 7 And remember the Name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with a complete devotion. 8 The Lord of the East and the West-- there is no god but He-- therefore take Him for a protector. 9 Bear patiently with what they say and with a fine abandonment forsake them. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the affluent ones who give the lie (to the Truth), and bear with them for a while. 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 How then, if you disbelieve, will you preserve yourselves on the day which will even turn the children hoary? 17 And the heaven shall be split therein. His promise indeed must be fulfilled. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
