In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou folded in garments! 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 The Sustainer of the east and the west [is He]: there is no deity save Him: hence, ascribe to Him alone the power to determine thy fate, 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 Leave Me to those who cry lies, those prosperous ones, and respite them a little, 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger, so We seized him with a ruinous seizure. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
