In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember the Name of thy Lord, and devote thyself unto Him very devoutly. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Indeed this is nothing but a Good Counsel; so let him who will take a way leading to his Lord. 19
