Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENWRAPPED in the cloak (of Prophethood), 1 stand up to pray for much of the night. 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 We are about to cast upon you a weighty Word. 5 Verily, the rising by night (for Tahajjud prayer) is very hard and most potent and good for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (understanding) the Word (of Allah). 6 Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation. 7 And remember thou the name of thy Lord, and devote thyself to Him with an exclusive devotion. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And have patience with what they say, and leave them with noble (dignity). 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 We have heavy fetters and a blazing Fire in store for them; 12 And food that chokes, and a painful punishment. 13 On the Day when the earth and the mountains will be in violent shake, and the mountains will be a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharoah rebelled against the messenger, so We seized him with a strong, crushing grip. 16 Then how can you avoid the punishment, if you disbelieve, on a Day that will make the children grey-headed (i.e. the Day of Resurrection)? 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 This is indeed a Reminder. Let whosoever will take the Path to his Lord. 19
