The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons that stand in witness. 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked round; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
