[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 When their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear Allah? 124 Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger. 125 fear God, then, and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 Do you build monuments on every high place in vanity, 128 and make for yourselves mighty castles, [hoping] that you might become immortal? 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 Rather keep your duty to Allah, and obey me. 131 "Yea, fear Him Who has bestowed on you freely all that ye know. 132 He hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and watersprings. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, “It is the same for us, whether you advise us or not be of the preachers.” 136 That is nothing but a habit of the ancients, 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 140
