The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you who covers himself [with a garment], 1 arise, and warn! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 be patient unto your Lord. 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked around, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 over it are nineteen. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
