The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 and purify your robes, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and he scowled; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 Anon shall I roast him into the Scorching Fire. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
