The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Leave Me with the one I created alone 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 whose life I have made run smoothly 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
