The Night (Al-Layl)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night when it enshrouds, 1 And the day when it shines in all its glory, 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Certainly, your efforts and deeds are diverse (different in aims and purposes); 4 As for one who gives [to others] and fears [God], 5 And testifieth to the Good, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 And as for him who is niggardly and considers himself free from need (of Allah), 8 And gives the lie to Al-Husna (see Verse No: 6 footnote); 9 We shall facilitate for him the way to Hardship, 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Indeed, [incumbent] upon Us is guidance. 12 And most surely Ours is the hereafter and the former. 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 who gives the lie to the truth and turns away [from it]. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 And indeed, soon he will be very pleased. 21
