The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and appointed for him ample wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 By no means! He has been stubbornly hostile to Our revelation: 16 Soon I shall mount him on Saood, the hill of fire. 17 He reflected, and then determined 18 May he be condemned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled; 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Blackening the skins. 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
