The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Which is bound to happen undoubtedly -- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 and raised couches 34 Indeed, We have produced the women of Paradise in a [new] creation 35 And made them virgins. 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
