The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And pollution shun. 5 Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! 6 but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. 7 Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! 10 Leave him to Me, the one whom I created single. 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means; he is stubbornly opposed to Our Signs. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
