The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 When the Horn is blown, 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 and sons ever present with him, 13 And made things easy for them. 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 So let him be cursed! How he plotted! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have not appointed any one but angels as keepers of Hell, and their number that We have fixed is to make it a means of contention for disbelievers, so that those who were given the Book may be certain, and the faith of the believers may have greater increase, and the people of the Book and believers may not be deceived, and the sceptics and infidels may say: "What does God mean by this parable?" That is how God leads whosoever He will astray, and guides whosoever He will. None knows the armies of your Lord save Him self. This is no more than reminder for mankind. 31
