In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And thy Sustainer's greatness glorify! 3 And your garments purify! 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I created alone, 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! How he calculated! 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 and it burns the flesh. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
