The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 arise and warn, 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 and purify your clothing, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 For when the trumpet shall sound, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him vast wealth. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and who still greedily desires that I should bestow upon him more. 15 Never! For he is an enemy to Our signs! 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 May he be condemned again for his schemes! He looked around, 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have set none but angels as Guardians of the Fire; and We have fixed their number only as a trial for Unbelievers,- in order that the People of the Book may arrive at certainty, and the Believers may increase in Faith,- and that no doubts may be left for the People of the Book and the Believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the Unbelievers may say, "What symbol doth Allah intend by this?" Thus doth Allah leave to stray whom He pleaseth, and guide whom He pleaseth: and none can know the forces of thy Lord, except He and this is no other than a warning to mankind. 31
