The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise and warn 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your robes, 4 shun uncleanness; 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And persevere in the way of your Lord. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And children to be by his side! 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Indeed he thought, and inwardly decided. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he looked round; 21 then he frowned and scowled, 22 and he turned his back and behaved arrogantly 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 And what have you understood, what hell is! 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
