The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Give not, thinking to gain greater 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that day will be a harsh day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 On him I shall impose a fearful doom. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he looked, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 Would that you really knew what hell is! 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 And We have set none but angels as guardians of the Fire, and We have fixed their number (19) only as a trial for the disbelievers, in order that the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) may arrive at a certainty [that this Quran is the truth as it agrees with their Books i.e. their number (19) is written in the Taurat (Torah) and the Injeel (Gospel)] and the believers may increase in Faith (as this Quran is the truth) and that no doubts may be left for the people of the Scripture and the believers, and that those in whose hearts is a disease (of hypocrisy) and the disbelievers may say: "What Allah intends by this (curious) example?" Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. 31
