The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
56 verses, revealed in Mecca after Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil) before The Key (Al-Faatehah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And keep your clothes clean. 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 and do not think that by doing such deeds, you have done a great favor to God. 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Not of ease, for disbelievers. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Never. He is refractory of Our signs. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Verily he considered, and devised. 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will drive him into Saqar. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
