The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O, you, wrapped in your cloak, 1 stand up, deliver your warning, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 And your clothing purify 4 And stay away from idols. 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the Trumpet shall be sounded, 8 That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: naught is this but magic from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Him shall I soon roast in Hell. 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 Darkening and changing the colour of man! 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
