By the moon, 32 And the night when on the wane, 33 And the daybreak when it shines; 34 Indeed hell is one of the greatest entities. 35 It is a warning for mankind 36 For the one among you who wishes to come forward or stay back. 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 From the guilty. 41 'What caused you to be thrust into the Scorching (Fire)' 42 They will answer: “We were not among those who observed Prayer, 43 Nor did we used to feed the poor. 44 and we were wont to indulge in sinning together with all [the others] who indulged in it; 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 until death approached us". 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- 49 as if they were startled asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 No indeed; but they do not fear the Hereafter. 53 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment. 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
